The Cabinet of Ministers by its October 26 resolution amended to allowances for the import of certain goods into Uzbekistan on Monday.

By government’s June 22, 2018 resolution, duty-free import allowances were established for household appliances, phones and other goods depending on their total value. In particular, individuals are now allowed import duty-free only one telephone device or mobile every six months.

According to the amendments, which will come into force on January 28, 2024, individuals will be able to import two phone devices duty-free each time they cross the border. At the same time, the total value of one or two phones when imported through the airport should not exceed $2,000. If the amount is conditionally $2,300, then 30% duties are applied on $300.

These amendments do not apply to goods arriving via international courier, meaning individuals will still be able to purchase $1,000 worth of goods in one quarter.

Meanwhile, mandatory declaration is being introduced when importing new phones, that is, individuals importing them must cross the border along the “red” corridor and fill out a declaration through customs officers. As previously noted by the Ministry of Digital Technologies, this will become the basis for legal import and integration into the UzIMEI system based on the results of the declaration.

“This will prevent breach of law. As a result, citizens will be able to easily register an additional second mobile device they brought with them in the UzIMEI system,” the Ministry of Digital Development noted.
