At the Nov. 28 government meeting the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the development of the Uzbekistan’s electrical equipment manufacturing industry.

According to the presidential press service, over the past six years, $640 million worth of 224 projects have been launched in this area. Exports are expected to reach $1 billion by the end of this year.

While, electrical products worth $800 million are imported into the country annually. Overall, the region has a $3 billion market.

“To take a worthy place in this market, it is necessary to set up cooperation with major brands and produce competitive products. This will be a particular focus of 141 projects worth $2 billion planned for next year,” the statement said.

This year it is planned to commission 2 GW of solar and wind power plants, and another 4 GW in 2024. Reportedly, they will be needing a lot of cables, generators, inverters, transformers, so the president set the task of localizing these products and obtaining international quality certificates.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that $100 million will be provided for government support for the introduction of advanced technologies, innovations and international standards in the field.

Those in charge reported plans to increase production by 20% next year and increase the volume of copper processing to 140 thousand tons. It was also noted that there is an opportunity to increase exports to $1.5 billion, and in 2025 - to $2 billion.
