Uzbekistan desperately needs guaranteed and stable energy resources, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the launch ceremony of green energy projects on Wednesday. As reported earlier, the commissioning took place of five solar power plants and the first stage of a wind power plant with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.

“According to estimates, in the next 6 years the demand for electricity in our country is expected to increase from the current 83 billion to 120 billion kilowatt-hours. We will cover this need primarily through renewable energy,” the head of state said.

“We have set ourselves the goal of doubling the volume of industry by 2030, through expanding metallurgy, petrochemistry and mechanical engineering to a new level. We plan to implement more than 500 large industrial and infrastructure projects worth a total of $150 billion,” he noted.

Uzbekistan is constantly looking for ways to mitigate the negative impact of climate change and supports the agreement of the world countries reached at the recent UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai to triple “green” generation, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“Uzbekistan fully supports this current initiative and will consistently continue its active investment policy to bring green energy sources to 27 gigawatts by 2030,” he said.

Currently, Uzbekistan is implementing 22 solar and wind power plant projects with a capacity of 9 gigawatts.

“Our country has enormous green energy potential. We must productively use this great gift sent to us by the Almighty and direct it for the benefit of the people,” the president continued.

To stimulate this area, the “Sunny House” system has been established to provide soft loans and subsidies for the installation of solar panels and guaranteed purchase of produced electricity. This year, 50 thousand households and entrepreneurs installed solar panels in the country. There are more than 7 million homes in total, he said.

“Uzbekistan is taking the first steps to supply “green” energy to the markets of Asian and European countries in the future, by adopting concrete plans and acting decisively,” the head of state also said.
