The founder of Azon Global portal, Alisher Tursunov, aka Mubashshir Ahmad, was released from a deportation center in Istanbul on Wednesday, the Uzbek Embassy in Turkey said.
On December 28, Turkish police took Alisher Tursunov from a house where he lived and placed him in a deportation center. No reasons were given.
The administration of Azon Global then reported that the allegation against him was not proven during the preliminary probe, and therefore the reasons for his detention were unclear.
Background: On August 5, 2023, the Azon media group (Azon.uz website, Azon FM online radio, Azon TV online television), founded by Alisher Tursunov, suspended all projects in Uzbekistan. The site, specializing in Islam, had been operating since August 2017.
