Law enforcement agencies have found the links of the former mayor of the Gulistan district to the illegal sale of a land plot for US$ 300 thousand, the press service of the State Security Service said.
Two people, 60 and 48, from Gulistan colluded and promised a man who wanted to start a business, through their familiar officials, to achieve the allocation of 3,800 sqm of land from the reserve of the Gulistan district mayor’s office. They added that they would help prepare the necessary documents for a multi-storey residential building project on this land. For this they demanded 300 thousand dollars (about $8,000 per hundred square meters), the report says.
Officers of the State Security Service for the Syrdarya province and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes arrested them in Gulistan while receiving US$ 50 thousand upfront.
The pre-investigation probe found that the former Gulistan district mayor, who worked in this position in 2018-2021, was also involved in this case, the department noted. According to open data, during these years Shavkat Gafurov served as the Gulistan district mayor.
