The Uzbek Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the missile attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, which killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

“We strongly condemn the air attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus (Syria), which resulted in several deaths and destruction on the territory of the diplomatic mission,” the statement said.

“We consider the attack on diplomatic and other missions of foreign states to be an absolutely unacceptable situation and a gross violation of the foundations and principles of international diplomatic law,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

Among the dead was the senior IRGC commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who commanded the elite Quds Force unit responsible for conducting special operations outside Iran. Another senior IRGC commander, Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, was also killed in the attack.

Iran's ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari, said six missiles were fired at the building by Israeli F-35 fighter jets.
