Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan announced a joint-stock company for erecting and operation of Kambarata HPP-1. According to Knews, Kyrgyzstan’s share in the project and the company is at 34 percent, while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will overtake 33 percent each. The relevant draft of the tripartite intergovernmental treaty has been posted on the "Open Regulatory Legal Documents" site of Kazakhstan.
The document says that "the main principles of the cooperation of the parties within the project are the guaranteed purchase of the entire amount of electricity produced at Kambarata HPP-1 by the organizations entered by the parties.
As per the draft contract, after the project completion, Kambarata HPP-1 shares and assets will be fully owned by Kyrgyzstan,.
In January 2023, the heads of the energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap for the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project on the Norin river.
According to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy, Kambarata HPP-1 should become the largest power station in Kyrgyzstan and will provide electricity to the countries of Central Asia, as well as stabilize the water supply of the region.
Earlier, the Kyrgyz president Sadir Japarov said that the Kambarat HPP-1 project will cost US$ 5-6 billion.
