On April 23, the first meeting of the working group on the development of the Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan multimodal transport corridor took place in Termiz. The event was attended by the Transport Ministers of the countries.

At the meeting, the parties emphasized the connecting of the Central Asian and CIS countries with South Asian countries via Uzbekistan and further increasing its transit potential would be achieved through the development of this transport corridor.

At the end of the meeting, a road map was signed between the parties. This road map outlined the implementation of specific plans for the development of cargo transportation. In particular, it is planned to increase transit cargo transportation through Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan by carrying out cargo analysis, using electronic digital documents in the transportation process, and simplifying transportation processes.

In recent years, the volume of transit cargo through Afghanistan has increased by more than 30 percent, reaching almost 1 million tons. After the signing of the transit trade treaty between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in 2021, the volume of cargo transportation between the countries has grown. In 2022, cargo transportation between the two countries through Afghanistan increased by two and a half times compared to 2021 and amounted to 675 thousand tons. This year, Uzbekistan plans to transport more than 1 million tons of cargo through this corridor.
