115 thousand labor migrants have returned to Uzbekistan from abroad year-to-date, the president said at the government meeting today.

In January-March, 58 thousand citizens returned, in April - 57 thousand, and by the end of the year another 250-300 thousand people are expected to return and their employment and income is of paramount importance, he added.

He instructed the officials to create a unified information platform on migration and integrating it with the Mahalla Seven system in order to help compatriots who work abroad and find themselves in a difficult situation, find employment upon their return.

At the end of March, the press secretary of the Agency for External Labor Migration, Ortikhuzha Norov, said at that time there were more than 1 million labor migrants from Uzbekistan in Russia (more than 2 million in the world).

In Q1 of 2024, the volume of cross-border remittances to Uzbekistan increased by 8.6% - from $2.3 billion to $2.5 billion. This is also higher than in the first quarter of 2022 ($1.46 billion) and 2021 ($1.41 billion). Russia's share decreased to 68% (in previous years it was 78−87%).
