The Statistics Agency posted a draft president’s Uzbekistan population census 2026 decree for public input. According to the decree, the census is scheduled from July 15 to August 21, 2026.

The draft decree proposes to create a republican and territorial commissions to facilitate the census. The republican commission will be headed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, and the territorial commissions will be headed by khokims.

The main duties of the commission will be:

  • preparation for the census and ensuring its timely and high-quality implementation;
  • coordination and monitoring of processes related to its implementation;
  • analysis of the census results;
  • consideration of proposals on preparation for the census and financing of its implementation, processing of census materials and announcement of its results;
  • involvement of individuals and legal entities in participation in the preparation and implementation of the census, resolving issues of their remuneration;
  • development of proposals for cooperation with international organizations.

The Statistics Agency plans to purchase tablets, hardware and software to conduct the census in 2024-2026 using a soft loan from the World Bank. The government agency will also have to ensure strict compliance with the law on personal data, guaranteeing the confidentiality of information.

The Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, province governor’s office and Tashkent city mayor’s office, as well as the Association of Mahallas and the Cadastre Agency must complete the installation of names of settlements and streets, as well as the complete numbering of houses and apartments by July 1, 2025.

By September 1, 2025, governor and mayor’s office must provide territorial statistics bodies with information on changes in territorial boundaries, as well as on assigning names to toponymic objects and changes in their names.
