The Prosecutor General's Office requested to rely only on the official information provided by the press service of the Office when covering operational or investigative activities conducted by the prosecutor's office.
The Office issued a warning due to the widespread dissemination of unconfirmed and unfounded information, as well as information that is not based on reliable official sources, through social networks in connection with the criminal case under investigation.
According to the office, the right and liability in the field of media and information are clearly defined in the legislation - this should be well understood by bloggers, administrators of groups and channels in social networks.
Accordingly, in order to prevent the spread of various misinterpretations and assumptions among the public, we strongly request the mass media to rely and refer only to the official information provided by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office when covering operational or investigative activities conducted by the prosecutor's office.
The General Prosecutor's Office reiterated that there is a criminal liability for spreading false, untrue and panic-inducing stories in any form.
