Uzbekistan’s executive bodies will be transferred to the territory of the New Tashkent, announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Saturday at an event dedicated to creating a green belt around the capital.
"Not everyone believed when we launched the New Uzbekistan Park. That is why I say that this initiative is not for a show-off.
"God willing, we will now build the New Tashkent where we will transfer all the executive bodies. We are drafting such plans. Imagine, loads of vehicles will not drive in here, there will be no traffic jams, and people will only benefit from this," he said.
The head of state mentioned his remarks at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku and said that it was “not without reason” that he proposed declaring 2025 the Year of Environmental Protection and the “Green” Economy in Uzbekistan.
“If we pay equal attention to sustainable economic development and environmental issues, to the green economy… We want to enter global markets, we want to join the World Trade Organization, because our only goal is to find markets. We need to open markets for entrepreneurs, because they bring technologies from Europe, Asia, America, China. Where will they put their products tomorrow? You know, we need to change our consciousness. To become competitive and get rid of corruption, we need to update technologies and produce worthy products for the market,” he said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that they plan to achieve a GDP of $200 billion. “When we started, it was $51 billion, now it is already $110 billion. It turned out to be possible! Therefore, if we move in accordance with our strategy for the future of our Motherland, all our plans and goals, then we will achieve our goals,” the president said.
By the April 19 presidential decree, the coordination council, headed by the prime minister, was instructed to submit a proposal to move the ministries and departments to New Tashkent within three months.
In March 2023, the president laid a capsule marking the beginning of the construction of New Tashkent. The city is expected to accommodate 1 million people. He noted that government agencies, universities and other facilities will be located here.
On the site of the buildings where the ministries and departments are now located, it is planned to open hotels, trade and service facilities. “Tashkent will turn into a modern center of tourism and business,” the head of state said at the time.
In September last year, the head of state approved the combined project of Tashkent and New Tashkent, developed by the British Cross Works. “Yes, we call it New Tashkent, but tomorrow it should also renew old Tashkent. They must become one blood, one artery,” said the head of the construction directorate, Davronjon Adilov.
The head of state stated that it was important to start the New Tashkent project, otherwise in five years it would be “impossible to live” in the capital.
