Uzbekistan and UAE-based Masdar have signed an agreement to erect a 1 GW Mingbulak wind farm, Dunyo said. The agreement was reportedly signed on the sidelines of the COP29 in Baku.
"The new wind farm will reportedly create 1,000 jobs during construction and 60 jobs for the operation and maintenance, and will provide clean energy to 300,000 households in the province after commissioning completion. The agreement strengthens the strategic partnership between Masdar and Uzbekistan and marks the first stage of a broader strategy to build three wind farms in the country.
Last year Masdar signed an agreement to implement new wind projects in Uzbekistan with total 2 GW of capacity, and in addition to the Mingbulak wind farm, the company will acquire two more facilities - Akpetki in Karakalpakstan and Buzaubay in Navoi province.
Reportedly, the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed al-Mazrui, stressed that the UAE and Uzbekistan shared similar views on sustainable development and renewable energy, and that this cooperation would serve to develop clean energy with zero emissions in Uzbekistan, as well as abroad.
The new wind power plant project will contribute to the growth of Uzbekistan's renewable energy portfolio.
