Uzbekistan could provide visa-free for the nationals of the Islamic Republic. The Iranian Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Uzbek Foreign Ministry confirmed this and said that the dialogue was still ongoing.
According to an official of the Iranian Embassy, Uzbek citizens are now allowed to visit Iran twice a year for two weeks without a visa. However, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said that, as per the bilateral accords, Uzbeks can only stay in Iran without a visa for only 10 days, while Iranian citizens are required to obtain an e-visa to enter Uzbekistan,” said the official representative of the Foreign Ministry, Ahror Burkhanov.
According to the embassy’s chargé d’affaires, Hossein Parvaresh, after Uzbeks were granted the 10-day visa-free to travel to Iran, the number of travelers has increased significantly, and the tickets for Tehran to Tashkent flights are selling out quickly.
The embassy added that medical tourism between the two countries is also developing, with the parties discussing facilitating for Uzbek patients to receive treatment in Iranian medical institutions.
If this issue is resolved, the number of Uzbeks traveling to Iran may increase further, added Huseyn Parvaresh.
According to the Foreign Ministry, visa-free is being discussed with many countries, but the ministry's main focus is to achieve visa-free for Uzbeks’ overseas travels.
