At a government meeting today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke about global economic instability and its potential impact on Uzbekistan.According to him, in recent days, global financial markets lost 10 trillion in value in just three or four days.”
“Those who think that these fluctuations will not affect us are mistaken. After all, part of these funds could have come to us in the form of investments, loans, Eurobonds,” he said.
Under these conditions, the president noted, all governors and economic departments must systematically address issues of maintaining production volumes, jobs, and exports.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the economic bloc to analyze problems by industry on a weekly basis and make new proposals, and mayors of districts and provinces to promptly address issues of entrepreneurs on the ground.
On April 2, Trump imposed duties on the import of goods from all countries of the world, including Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. The minimum base tariff will be 10%, and mirror tariffs for a dozen countries range from 11% to 50%.
In response, China imposed a 34% tariff on American products and said it did not intend to give in to Trump. Then Washington raised the tariff on Chinese imports to 104%. The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded that Beijing “would fight to the end” if the US “intends to unleash a tariff or trade war”.
