The production sharing agreement with Gazprom on the Shokhpakhta gas field in Karakalpakstan has expired, and the Russian company has left the field, the press service of Uzbekneftegaz said.

The Shokhpakhta field PSA lasted 20 years and expired on July 31, 2024.

The first gas condensate field in the Shokhpakhta area of Ustyurt was discovered in 1964, and gas production commenced in 1970s. Later, work was stopped due to the depletion of reserves.

In 2004, the field was re-launched using new technologies, when a joint venture was launched with Gazprom Zarubezhneftegaz and a production sharing agreement was entered into for a period of 15 years. Since then, 19 wells have been commissioned.

In 2018, Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz signed an agreement to extend Shokhpakhta field gas field production for 5 years and continue until 2024. On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Gazprom Deputy Chairman of the Board Vitaly Markelov and Uzbekneftegaz Chairman of the Board Alisher Sultanov signed Addendum No. 2 on further field development.

According to Neftegaz.ru, 350 million cubic meters of gas have been extracted from Shokhpakhta annually in recent times.

25-year production sharing agreement was signed with Gazprom in 2018 for the Jel field, located 15 km from the Shokhpakhta field.
