Following all stages of the tender for modernization and management of the Urgench International Airport under public-private partnership (PPP) terms have been completed, Incheon International Airport Corporation (South Korea) has been awarded the assignment, the Uzbekistan Airports said.

The tender was announced on August 1, 2024 and was held in two stages: a request for qualifications and a request for proposals. Eight companies had sent their bids, five of which advanced to the second final stage, following which the interdepartmental tender commission determined the winner. 

According to Uzbekistan Airports, the private partner should ensure the construction and management of the passenger and cargo terminals, including ground handling. The public partner will continue to be in charge of the construction and management of the airfield complex (runway, apron). 

The next step will be the entering into a PPP agreement according to the project with a 19-year concession period. 

Background: Public-private partnership project for modernization and management of the Urgench International Airport was initiated by the August 30, 2024 presidential decree and is being implemented by Uzbekistan Airports jointly with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
