Voltalia announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Urgench in Uzbekistan to develop human capital by introducing new nationally accredited training program focused on renewable energy. This ambitious project is co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and aims to equip young graduates at Bachelor and Master levels with the technical skills needed to thrive in the growing renewable energy sector in Uzbekistan.
The partnership is the result of months of collaboration, beginning in May 2023 with initial discussions between Voltalia and the University of Urgench, supported by the French Embassy in Uzbekistan. By April 2024, Voltalia entered discussions with the EBRD, securing financial backing for the program. The official financing agreement was finalized in December 2024. In parallel, KPMG was selected in November 2024 to implement and design the program, ensuring it aligns with global standards and evolving industry needs.
A program set to launch in September 2025 to foster skills for the green transition
This unique training program, set to welcome its first cohort in September 2025, will offer a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, preparing young professionals for key technical roles in the renewable energy sector. It is designed to address the growing labour market demand for skilled professionals as Uzbekistan continues its energy transition towards more sustainable and renewable energy sources.
“We are excited to collaborate closely with the EBRD and the University of Urgench on this project, which perfectly embodies our shared commitment to a fair and inclusive energy transition. Investing in the training of young talent is essential to ensure the long-term success of renewable energy in the region,” said Carole Pontais, Country Manager at Voltalia.
The EBRD, alongside Voltalia, plays a pivotal role in this initiative, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable investments and developing local expertise to drive the transformation of Uzbekistan's energy landscape. This partnership aligns with the EBRD's broader goals of promoting private sector participation, supporting green economy transition and developing human capital to meet the country's long terms development goals.
