The National Electric Networks and the Chinese Shandong Electrical Engineering & Equipment Group signed the contract for the designing, procurement and installing of two high-voltage (220 kV) Zafar and Fayziobod substations in Tashkent, the press service of the Ministry of Energy said.
Reportedly, the main goal of the project is the transition of the said substations to modern gas-insulated switchgear.
The project is part of the main electrical networks modernization and reconstruction of Uzbekistan, financed by the Asian Development Bank. It is aimed at increasing the stability of the country's energy grid.
The National Electric Networks announced a tender for the modernization of the Tashkent’s two substations last summer.
With the onset of heat, power outages are recorded in different areas of Tashkent every year. Recently, the company Regional Electric Networks announced that the outages are due to work on modernizing and repairing distribution networks in preparation for the autumn-winter season.
