The newly appointed French Ambassador to Uzbekistan Walid Fouque took up his duties on August 27, the press service of the French Embassy said.

In an address in Uzbek, the Ambassador expressed joy at the start of his posting "to a country known for its thousand-year-old culture and hospitality."

"I will make every effort to cooperate with you and promote the historical rapprochement of our countries... In the coming months, I intend to visit all provinces to strengthen the bonds of friendship that unite France and Uzbekistan together with you and build a common future," the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador Walid Fouque is a career diplomat and a second-grade State administrator.

A graduate in public affairs from the Paris Institute of Political Studies, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Directorate for Strategic, Security, and Disarmament Affairs (2010-2014).

A political advisor at the French Embassy in Beijing (2014-2017) and then at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York (2017-2019), he returned to central administration as Deputy Director for the Far East in the Asia and Oceania Directorate (2019-2020).

Walid Fouque was then seconded to the Presidency of the French Republic as Advisor for Asia, Oceania, and the Americas to the Head of State (2020-2025).
