In the autumn-winter period of 2025-2026, consumers in Uzbekistan are expected to receive 25.4 BCM of natural gas, 200 million cubic meters more than last season, stated the Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber Thursday.

The minister emphasized that one of the key objectives was to build up gas reserves in underground storage facilities and ensure their stable operation.

"This plan has been fulfilled, and today both of our major gas supply systems (the Gazli and Khodjaabad UGS facilities) are operating reliably. Up to 42 million cubic meters of gas per day are being withdrawn," Mirzamakhmudov said.

According to him, emergency teams have been formed, the necessary reserves have been created, and all systems are under special monitoring.

"This year, during the winter, it is expected that 1.2 BCM more gas will be released from gas storage facilities for domestic consumption than last year," he noted.

In October 2024, the minister reported that over 5.1 BCM of gas had been accumulated in Uzbekistan's underground gas storage facilities for the winter season, an increase of 1.1 BCM compared to 2023. That year, the UGS plan was also met. Despite this, gas supply interruptions continued (restrictions were imposed on the operation of gas stations and seasonal consumers).

Summarizing the announced figures, approximately 6.3 BCM of gas have been accumulated in underground storage facilities. It is unknown whether these UGS reserves were used to cover the 6 million cubic meter deficit that arose following a man-made accident in a neighboring country, which led to a reduction in gas imports.

Uzbekistan does not disclose up-to-date data on gas volumes in underground storage facilities, as well as withdrawal and injection rates.

"On the coldest days, we provide daily information on how our energy system is operating. That is, we report how much has been extracted, how much resources have been produced, how much has been consumed in each direction, and where emergency situations have occurred. What if, during these times, we showed how much was withdrawn from underground gas storage facilities (UGS) to cover consumption?" he said.

Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov stated that a presentation on the energy monitoring system for gas withdrawals would be prepared. "I would propose holding a briefing dedicated entirely to the digitalization of these processes—it would be useful." "There, we will show in detail how monitoring is carried out," the minister stated.

This data remains unavailable to this date to the general public.
