Today, the MPs of the Legislative Chamber passed in its first reading a bill proposing administrative liability for insults and hooliganism online.

The bill was proposed by a group of UzLiDeP MPs exercising their right to legislative initiative.

The bill, in particular, has proposed administrative liability for the use of obscene language, offensive and indecent statements, and other actions that violate public order and public peace online. The MPs believe this provision is essential for ensuring public order and public peace.

Speaking at the meeting, MP Khushvakt Khaitov announced that a new Article 183-1 is proposed to be inserted into the Administrative Liability Code.

"Furthermore, it has proposed to add an Article 183-1 into the Code, on administrative liability for the use of obscene language, offensive harassment, and other actions that violate public order and the peace of citizens, committed on telecommunications networks or on the global internet," the deputy stated.

According to him, this provision is needed due to the rise in offenses on social media.

MP and leader of the Milliy Tiklanish party, Alisher Kadirov, also expressed support for the bill.

"Online hooliganism shall be punishable by law... Insults, humiliation, and actions on social media that violate public order and the peace of individuals, or similar actions, will be punishable by a fine of up to 5 million soums or administrative arrest for up to 10 days," he stated.

The bill will be finalized for a second reading.
