At the start of the 2025–2026 academic year, the student enrollment in Uzbekistan's universities reached 1.535 million. This marks one of the highest figures in the history of the country's university system, reflecting an increase of over 102,000 students in just a single year.

According to the National Statistics Committee, enrollment at the beginning of the current academic year grew by 102.2 thousand students, or 7.1 percent, compared to the previous year.

Out of the total student population, 782.9 thousand are women and 752.1 thousand are men. Consequently, women continue to hold a larger share of university enrollment than men.

Student numbers have shown a steady upward trend over recent years. Specifically, during the 2021–2022 academic year, there were 808.4 thousand students nationwide, which climbed to 1.0421 million in the 2022–2023 academic year. Enrollment reached 1.3145 million in 2023–2024 and 1.4328 million in 2024–2025. This current academic year marks the first time the figure has surpassed the 1.5 million milestone.

Experts attribute this ongoing expansion to the widening accessibility of higher education, the opening of new universities and branch campuses, and the continuous increase in admission quotas. The statistics also highlight a growing trend of female empowerment and academic engagement within higher education.
