Tashkent plans to introduce user-friendly routes and digital maps for tourists and visitors, as well as increase the number of public restrooms and trash bins. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today at a meeting.

According to official data, the capital has received nearly 3 million foreign tourists since the start of the year. The meeting noted that many tourists prefer to explore historical monuments, parks, markets, cafes, restaurants, and tourist-friendly neighborhoods (mahallas) on foot. To support this, the city needs clear signage, convenient routes, and digital maps.

Officials have been tasked with introducing maps showing city routes for tourists at bus stops, train stations, the airport, and metro stations. These maps will be freely and easily downloadable to mobile phones.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Tashkent has long been regarded as a clean, well-maintained, "green" city. At the same time, the meeting took a critical look at whether the condition of the city's streets, squares, and parks actually lives up to the expectations of residents and tourists.

The head of state stressed that cleanliness is not merely a matter of everyday upkeep, but a question of culture and values. Mahalla chairs, elders, and community activists were encouraged to work together with residents on beautification efforts — including planting and watering trees — and to instill in young people the principle that "cleanliness begins at one's own doorstep."

Particular attention was drawn to the shortage of public restrooms for visitors to the capital and residents out for a walk. Officials were instructed to develop a dedicated program within a month and, by the end of this year, put land plots up for auction to build 15 to 20 modern restrooms in each district.

Measures are also planned to sharply increase the number of trash bins across the city.

In March 2023, Tashkent opened Uzbekistan's first automated sanitary facility. It operated around the clock, was equipped with a shower, and was accessible to people with disabilities.

In the summer of 2025, restrooms and mother-and-child rooms began opening in the Tashkent metro.
