A bust to the Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi was inaugurated on July 29 in Minsk as part of the first Uzbekistan-Belarus Provinces Forum, BelTA reported.
The monument was opened in a squar in Sverdlov Street ahead of the official visit of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus.
In the ceremony was present the first deputy chairman of the Senate Sodiq Safoev. , who, on behalf of the Uzbek people, expressed gratitude to the President of Belarus, the city hall and the public of Minsk for showing respect to the memory of the great poet, thinker and statesman. He named the erecting of the monument as the testament of the enhanced bonds between the two peoples.
“Alisher Navoi was the first outstanding poet to unveil the colorful, extraordinary richness of the Uzbek language,” said the senator. “But he was also a prominent statesman of his time, who supported scientists, thinkers, artists, and built 380 public buildings.”
“Culture unites everyone and is the foundation of the world, it has no boundaries. We love the culture of Belarus and honor the culture of Uzbekistan. And we are sure that the culture, as a spiritual basis, is and will be uniting all nations,” said Marianna Schetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
