50,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine were delivered to Uzbekistan from Azerbaijan, the UNICEF office in the country reported.
Reportedly, the vaccine received with the assistance of the Azerbaijani Embassy is not an Indian manufactured vaccine, but the one produced by the British-Swedish company itself. Azerbaijan purchased it through the COVAX program. Thus, Azerbaijan responded to UNICEF's call to donate doses of COVID-19 vaccines to other countries.
“Failure to swiftly, fairly provide access to vaccine supplies, the world will continue to be at risk of lethal mutations of the COVID 19 virus,” UNICEF said in a statement.
Uzbekistan received the first batch of 660 thousand doses of AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine in March this year. The next delivery of the jab was expected in June.
A few days ago, MP Doniyor Ganiev said that in the coming months Uzbekistan will receive almost 5 million doses of various vaccines, including through the COVAX program (AstraZeneca or Moderna).
Over the past four months, Uzbekistan has received 7.53 million doses of vaccines - the Chinese-Uzbek ZF-UZ-VAC2001 (6.5 million), AstraZeneca (660 thousand) and Sputnik V (370 thousand). According to the Ministry of Health, 5.39 million doses of the vaccine have been used in the country as of July 15.
