Two people have died and three others, including two children, sustained severe injuries following a devastating car crash in Tashkent's Yunusabad district. The Tashkent Police Department (TPD) released details of the incident a week after it occurred.

The collision took place on June 30 at approximately 5:10 AM at the intersection of Amir Temur and Bogishamol streets. According to authorities, a Kia K5 crashed at high speed into a Lacetti as its driver was making a turn. Video footage released by the TPD shows one car crossing the intersection before the Lacetti begins its turn, at which point the Kia slams into it. The force of the impact ripped the Lacetti into two pieces.

Two occupants of the Lacetti died as a result of the crash. Three others, including two children, were hospitalized with severe physical trauma.

Preliminary investigative data reveals that the Kia was driven by an unlicensed minor.

"I took my father's car without permission late at night and drove off. I invited my friends out. My only goal was just to drive around for a bit. I was heading from the direction of the NBU bank when the Lacetti pulled out into the intersection. Because of my high speed, I couldn't stop the car. I deeply regret what I did. I beg forgiveness from the relatives of the deceased. I ask my parents for forgiveness. I never wanted this to happen. I have brought shame upon my parents. I apologize to our people for what I have done. I strongly advise my peers not to get behind the wheel—as it turns out, it can lead to terrible consequences," the teenager stated.

The TPD’s Investigative Department has launched a criminal case under Article 266, Part 3, Paragraph "a" of the Criminal Code - Violations of traffic safety or vehicle operational rules resulting in human casualties. The investigation is ongoing.

A public community hearing was held regarding the tragedy, drawing participation from neighborhood activists, as well as teachers and students from the school where the teenagers involved are enrolled.
