Attending the 18th plenary session of the Senate, the First Deputy Foreign Minister Farhod Arziev answered questions from senators on the situation in Afghanistan.

“We are currently witnessing unpredictable developments in Afghanistan. Uzbekistan has been participating in the peace process in this country for several years.

We are in favor of a coalition government that will be formed taking into account the interests of all political forces in this country. The Uzbek government has been far from believing that peace can be achieved through the use of force.

We have had constructive relations with the Taliban government for several years, and we have seen them as undeniable representatives of Afghan society.

If we talk about the risks and dangers of some people belonging to terrorist groups infiltrating into Uzbekistan, the officials of the international organizations, representatives of foreign diplomatic corps and Afghan citizens are leaving the country in transit through the territory of Uzbekistan. We have a list of incoming citizens, and foreign countries have also taken responsibility for the people they are evacuating. People related to terrorist organizations will not be allowed to enter or stay in Uzbekistan through transit.

As for our missions and citizens in Afghanistan, we have an embassy in Kabul and a consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif. The activities of both missions are ongoing at the same time. Today, there are no Uzbek citizens in Afghanistan who are in a difficult situation for commercial or other purposes,” Farhod Arziev said.
