Residents of Tyumen were detained at Roschino airport, who were trying to smuggle jewelry worth 13.8 million rubles (about $230.9 thousand) to Tashkent.

A criminal case was initiated against them under the Smuggling of strategically important resources of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, with detainees facing imprisonment for up to 10 years, Kommersant said.

It has been established that the residents of Tyumen attracted people who made jewelry with inserts of diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and other precious stones. For the export of 999 gold, a 300-gram cross was cast.

Suspects were detained while passing customs control.

One of the possible organizers of the smuggling channel was chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The investigation is ongoing.
