Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, who is visiting Samarkand to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the presidential press service reported.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to Uzbekistan for the earlier humanitarian assistance provided to the victims of the floods in Pakistan. He confirmed the Pakistan’s interest in strengthening the multifaceted strategic partnership with Uzbekistan.

The two leaders considered the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation, primarily in trade, economic, investment, transport and transit areas and valued the growth of the two-way trade figures. Last year it grew by 47% YTD by another 10%. The number of joint ventures has reached 200.

The counterparts focused on expanding cooperation in the field of transport and logistics and emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway project, removing trade barriers and creating favorable conditions for mutual deliveries of goods.

Topical issues on the international and regional agenda were also discussed.
