The results of the diversity visa (green card lottery), which is held for citizens of foreign countries to obtain a visa that gives them the right to live and work in the United States, have been announced. The organizers counted the number of winners and sorted them by continent.
This year's lottery has 119,262 winners and will be invited for a visa interview at the US Embassy in their home country between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023. 55,000 of them will receive US visas. According to some reports, this number may increase, as Joe Biden said that the number of green card holders should be increased to 80,000.
In terms of the number of green card holders, Uzbekistan was at its best this time. The largest number of winners of the DV-2023 green card lottery was recorded in Egypt - 5,529 people. Algeria, whose citizens have won 5,526 green cards, is in second place. Uzbekistan finished third with 5,511 winners.
They are followed by Iran (5,506), Russia (5,505), Sudan (4,863), Morocco (4,469), Congo (4,385), Ukraine and Nepal (3,808 each) and Armenia (3,525), respectively.
A large number of citizens won the green card lottery in the countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan (1,978), Kyrgyzstan (2,846), Tajikistan (2,485), Turkmenistan (555).
