Uzbekistan will host the 21st meeting of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification Review Committee in 2023, Dunyo said in a statement.
Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov met with the UN Deputy Secretary General/Executive Secretary of the Convention to Combat Desertification, Ibrahim Tiau in New York Wednesday.
The parties reportedly discussed issues of cooperation in the field of climate change, environmental protection, desertification and drought.
As Ibrahim Tiau noted, cooperation with Uzbekistan within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification had significantly increased in recent years. The fact that the 21st meeting of the Committee for Reviewing the Implementation of the Convention will be held in Uzbekistan next year is proof of growing mutual relations. He informed that the secretariat of the convention is ready to provide comprehensive assistance to Uzbekistan in the preparation and holding of this event.
He commended Uzbekistan's practical measures to eliminate the negative consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, and its efforts to green the dry seabed.
