The Cooperative Republic of Guyana became the 142nd country with which Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations. On October 10, a joint communique was signed in New York on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the Foreign Ministry said.

On behalf of the government of the two countries, the document was signed by the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and the Permanent Representative of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the UN Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies and reached an agreement to maintain bilateral contacts to search for mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

“The signing of the document was an important step to enhance the interaction of Uzbekistan with the countries of South America,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
