Muzrabat district former mayor Erkin Alimov, who was fired in September, is now facing charges, UzA reported. The Surkhandarya province department of State Security Service launched a case under Theft by misappropriation or embezzlement, Abuse of power and Forgery charges.

According to provisional data of the probe, the former mayor allegedly registered 4.2 hectares of land worth 1.7 billion soums to his close relatives without putting up for auction.

In addition, the district banks provided soft loans for 166 billion soums to his close relatives for various purposes, most of them turned into problem loans. Currently, banks are trying to recover overdue payments on a loan for 121.4 billion soums.

According to the department, during a search at Surkhondaryodonmakhsulotlari company, which Erkin Alimov headed in 2010-2017, 9,600 tons of grain worth 35 billion soums were stolen, presumably with the participation of the mayor. Now more than 20 officials of the joint-stock company are involved in the investigation, who “gave evidence about the illegal actions of Erkin Alimov,” UzA concluded.
