Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov and Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev signed an agreement on separate sections of the border and an agreement between the governments on the joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.

The signing took place during the visit of Vladimir Norov to Bishkek to attend the next round of political consultations. Also the following were signed:

  • water management cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan and the Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan;
  • memorandum of cooperation between Uzarchive Agency and Ministry of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan;
  • cooperation agreement between the International Institute of Central Asia and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan;
  • cooperation program between the foreign ministries of the two countries for 2023-2024;
  • joint statement of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the consultations, the counterparts noted importance of continuing a constructive political dialogue on the unconditional implementation of the agreements of the heads of the two states.

They also focused on the preparation of joint events at the highest level, including the upcoming state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan.

The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the issues of border delimitation. “It was emphasized that the completion of the legal registration of the state border line on the basis of the principles of equality, mutual benefit and good neighborliness is in the interests of both the two countries and the whole of Central Asia,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

The ministers also agreed to take measures to increase the volume of two-way trade and expand its range, step up the activities of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and expand contacts between business entities and regions.

The issues of implementing major joint infrastructure and energy projects, including the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, were discussed separately.
