On November 1, the Takhiatosh district mayor Ilhom Matkarimov was arrested and charged with fraudulently taking 100 million soums from the head of a farm.
According to the Prosecutor's Office of Karakalpakstan, the mayor is now facing Fraud and Bribery charges of the Criminal Code.
The investigation is being conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Ilhom Matkarimov has been in charge of Takhiatosh district since June 2020. He was the prosecutor of Moynaq district in 2018-2020.
At the end of October, the Urganch district deputy mayor was caught with a bribe of 43 thousand dollars.
Currently, the former mayors of Termiz city and Muzrabot district of Surkhandarya, as well as the former mayor of Karshi city are being investigated.
