The Egypt's largest sugar manufacturer Nile Sugar will launch a project in Jizzakh province in March to grow sugar beets, process them, and produce sugar products, the Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Laziz Kudratov told the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

According to him, the project envisions a 200,000-ton capacity annual sugar production unit. The total foreign direct investment is estimated at $450 million.

Agriculture Minister Ibrohim Abdurakhmanov clarified that the president had ordered the project to be expedited.

"Directives have been given to take the project under separate control and begin its implementation as soon as possible. All necessary documents have been completed, land plots have been allocated, and investments are ready," he stated.

In July 2023, the Dunyo news agency reported on Nile Sugar's plans to launch a production unit in Jizzakh province. The full-cycle sugar beet cultivation project was planned to be implemented on an area of approximately 52,000 hectares.

In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that 50,000 hectares of land in Gallyaral and Farish districts of the province had been selected for sugar beet cultivation and 170 hectares for the construction of a sugar factory.

On January 23 of this year, Laziz Kudratov met with Emad Farid, the CEO of Nile Sugar. Following the talks, the parties signed a final MoM confirming their commitment to continue coordinated work on the preparation and implementation of joint projects. The MoM provides for clarification of project parameters, financing terms, and agreement on further steps to expand practical cooperation.
