The installed capacity of Uzbekistan’s power has reached 25 GW "in a short period of time" growing by 50%, the Deputy PM Jamshid Khodjaev announced on June 19 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

According to him, the capacity of solar and wind power plants already has surpassed 3.5 GW, and storage capacity is also rising.

Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of electricity generation from 84 to 135 billion kWh by 2030, and the installed capacity of renewable energy sources - more than five times, from 4 to over 20 GW.

"We also have regional projects - this is the export of "green" energy to European countries. We indeed believe in this. If we did not believe, then all these projects would not have been implemented. I want to emphasize that they were implemented on the basis of public-private partnership. These are direct investments from investors," Khodjaev noted.

Answering the moderator's question about "where Uzbekistan cannot do without oil," the Deputy Prime Minister pointed to the petrochemical and other conventional sectors of the economy.

However, he added, the country was striving to switch to alternative energy whenever possible.

"In Central Asia, in particular Uzbekistan, the sun, wind and water are gifted by God. Therefore, using this potential, especially when there is already an investment climate, is the most correct way," Khodjaev said.

He pointed to the political will of the president, institutional, consistent legal reforms that have radically changed the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan, in particular, in green energy.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that Uzbekistan, China and Central Asian countries were discussing a project to unify energy systems and mutual electricity supplies.
