The installation of 60 km/h speed limiting road signs has been commenced in Tashkent, the Tashkent traffic safety police reported. Reportedly, at present, along with other provinces, road signs are being installed in Tashkent in specially designated places, and devices are being adapted respectively to detect traffic violations.
As it became known, the change will be introduced in stages, taking into account the installation of appropriate road signs, the adaptation of cameras that record traffic violations.
In mid-January of this year, the maximum speed limit on streets within the Small Ring Road was set at 60 km/h.
In early February 2022, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that Tashkent planned to limit the speed of traffic to 60 km/h.
“We need to slow down and reduce congestion. Many people are dying in road accidents,” Mirziyoyev said at the time.
As also reported earlier, from June 1, 2023, the speed limit is expected to be reduced from 70 to 60 km/h, not only in cities, but also in all towns and villages.
