Uzbek Ambassador Ravshan Usmanov met with the Minister of Transport of Malaysia Loke Siew Fook, the Dunyo said in a statement.
Reportedly, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia and in particular, exchanged opinions on the ways to advance cooperation in the field of air transport and railway.
The Minister welcomed the launch of Tashkent to Kuala Lumpur flights from November of this year by the Malaysian airline company Batik Air.
He recognized the work carried out by the working group on the study of the corridors connecting the two countries by railway, and expressed the need to accelerate cooperation in this area.
"This route is the only transport corridor connecting the two countries by railway. This route can be a logistics hub for Uzbek products to enter the market of Southeast Asian countries in Malaysia," he said.
In March of this year, a working group was formed to study the railway corridors between the two countries. The parties determined measures to study the use of the Tashkent-Shymkent (Kazakhstan)-Urumqi-Xi'an-Chongqing-Kunming (China)-Laos-Thailand-Perlis-Klang (Malaysia) route.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to speed up the negotiations between Batik Air and Uzbekistan Airports and to start the flights of this Malaysian airline to Uzbekistan starting from November this year, to develop a working trip of experts of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan to Kuala Lumpur to study the advanced experience of Malaysia.
