The President’s Envoy for Foreign Policies, the former Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov was awarded one of Japan's highest awards - the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, the NHK TV channel reported.

The award ceremony took place on November 8 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The Order was offered by the Emperor Naruhito of Japan in the presence of Prime Minister Fumio Kishido. A total of 14 people received the award.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you for your many years of support in carrying out your duties and dedication to your country, society and people,” Emperor Naruhito said.

The Order of the Rising Sun is Japan's oldest order, awarded since 1875. It has six classes, with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, being the first, highest degree of the award - is awarded to individuals who have achieved outstanding results in public office. The Order is also awarded to foreign citizens for their contribution to the development of Japan's relations with other countries.

Last year, the the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun was offered to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov. A year earlier, the first deputy chairman of the Senate, Sodiq Safoyev, was awarded. He became the first Uzbek to receive the order of this degree.
