Microbiologist, Director of Uzbek-Chinese laboratory at the National University of Uzbekistan Dilfuza Egamberdieva was rewarded UNESCO-Carlos J. Finlay Prize for Microbiology, the press service of the Culture and Arts Development Foundation said.

She was rewarded for research in the field of plant-microbiome interactions, plant stress tolerance, soil biology and microbial diversity. Her research focused on environmental and social acceptability, the report notes.

The decision to award the prize was made by UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay.

The UNESCO-Carlos J. Finlay Prize for Microbiology rewards the efforts of an individual, or of an institution, non-governmental organization or other entity which, through research and development, has made an outstanding contribution to the field of microbiology and its applications. Through this prize, the Government of Cuba and UNESCO aim to encourage research and development in Microbiology.
