On November 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Uzbekneftegaz and familiarized himself with the progress of preparation of the Uzbekistan energy system for the winter.

According to the presidential press service, based on conclusions drawn from the abnormal cold at the beginning of the year, measures were taken to enhance the energy system.

“This year we contributed 14.5 trillion soums from all sources to improve the energy system. We provided everything necessary - raw materials, materials, equipment. Now leaders in the sector need to take full responsibility, plan everything clearly and ensure a guaranteed supply of energy,” the president said.

Year-to-date, electricity generating facilities with a total capacity of 675 MW have been commissioned. Across the country, 100 substations, 11.5 thousand transformers and 34 thousand kilometers of networks have been updated, the report says.

He added that in order to ensure a stable supply of natural gas to households and enterprises, the supply of 5 billion cubic meters gas has been guaranteed, and sufficient gas reserves have been gathered in underground storage facilities.

Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov reported on measures undertaken this year using allocated funds, the volume of reserves created, the estimated daily requirement and sources of its satisfaction.

He underscored that from December 1, the energy system will switch to round-the-clock operation. In the coming months, it is planned to commission 8 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 1,700 MW, as well as a gas turbine with a capacity of 500 MW in the Syrdarya. The production of 900 thousand tons of coal will begin at the Shargun deposit in the Surkhandarya region.

A sufficient reserve of liquefied gas, fuel oil, transformers, cables and other necessary spare parts has also been created, the minister said

The head of state emphasized the importance of a stable supply of energy resources, at the same time ensuring payment discipline. Instructions were given to suppress illegal connections and save energy resources during warm days.

On October 7, Uzbekistan began importing gas from Russia through the territory of Kazakhstan via the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline, which was switched to reverse mode. A two-year agreement between UzGasTrade and Gazprom Export LLC provides for the supply of 9 million cubic meters of gas per day, or almost 2.8 billion cubic meters per year.

In August, Uzbekistan entered into a gas sales contract with Turkmenistan for the supply of 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas annually.
