Cross-border crime group that was supplying large quantities of medicines of unwarranted quality from India through Kazakhstan was uncovered in Uzbekistan in an operation by the State Security Service together with the Border Troops, the press service of the State Security Service said.
The operation found that a batch of medicines was being delivered from Delhi to Almaty, then brought to the border village of Dostyk, Saryagash district, Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, and through a secret tunnel was about to be transported to Urikzor mahalla, Tashkent district, Tashkent province.
The 310 meter-long tunnel exited at the house of a resident of the Urikzor mahalla, 48,. Reportedly, it is equipped with ventilation and lighting, and also has carts and ropes for transporting goods.
17,048 packages of Indian-made drugs of 107 names, including Albumin, Remdesivir, Meropenem and others, were seized from alleged members of the criminal group. Their total value is estimated at more than 1 billion soums.
Criminal case has been launched and several people suspected of being involved in the crime group have been arrested.
