The Shakhrisabz district criminal court of the Kashkadarya province on April 8 issued a ruling against a woman and two men for sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl. The appeal court upheld the decision of the court of first instance, the press service of the children's ombudsman Surayyo Rakhmonova said.

In November the girl turned to the children's ombudsman and reported that from May to November she was forcibly kept in her house by a resident of the Khojabog village in Shakhrisabz district N.A., forcing her to have sexual intercourse with different people through violence and threats. In December, Surayyo Rakhmonova visited the girl. At the request of the Children's Ombudsman, the General Prosecutor's Office took control of the case.

According to the verdict, the woman N.A. was convicted under Trafficking in persons committed against a person known to the perpetrator to be under 18 years of age, by an organized group or in its interests charge and Engaging a minor in antisocial behavior charge of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison.

Two men A.F. and Sh.U. were found guilty under the same two articles, as well as Raping a person under 18 years of age and were sentenced to 9 years in prison.

The Office of the Children's Ombudsman added that, according to the new procedure, no mitigation measures are applied to those convicted under these articles; they serve their sentences in full.
