Strong mudflow caused by heavy rainfall in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan led to the destruction of a road bridge across the mountain river Akbuira in the Jalakuduk district of the Andijan province on Sunday. Footages of the collapse appeared on social networks.
They show that there were no people or cars on the bridge at the time of the collapse. Drivers, noticing that the bridge had sagged, stopped their cars at a safe distance.
The press service of the province governor’s office reported that there were no casualties; on the same day, the governor and the mayors of the Khojaabad and Jalakuduk districts were present on site. Work is planned to restore it.
Uzgidromet reported that, in addition to the road bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the Akbuira River in the Khojaabad district was also destroyed. There were no casualties.
Meanwhile, the body of a 5-6 year old girl was found in the Shakhrihansai canal in the same area. According to the governor’s office, the girl was allegedly carried away by water in the Osh region. She was identified from a photograph by family members in a neighboring country.
Earlier, Uzgidromet warned about possible mudflows and floods in the foothills and mountainous areas of six regions of Uzbekistan due to expected rains on July 13-16.
