Separate accounts for EV charging stations could be implemented for household electricity consumers in Uzbekistan before 2025, Alvar Gaibullayev, first deputy chief of Regional Electric Networks said this at a press conference on July 11.

According to him, due to the increase in the number of electric vehicles, the public is requesting to open an additional account for chargers.

He noted that one installed meter for one consumer (feeder) receives electricity from one transformer. However, consumers connect to two or three transformers due to lack of energy capacity. One meter is tied to the collection hub of one transformer, which is why the company does not receive data on energy consumption.

Alvar Gaibullayev added the government entity made proposals to address the problem, but the supply of electricity for electric vehicles depends not only on opening an account.

He explained that now in high-rise buildings air conditioners are installed in each room, as well as other devices, which is why the wires cannot withstand and fail.

“Design institutes have been assigned to completely replace such wires. In particular, regarding the charging of electric vehicles, it is prescribed to take into account the cable cross-section even on large lines,” he said.

According to him, the fire of wires in abnormally cold weather was due to the fact that they begin to transmit 3-4 times more electricity. “The design institute cannot calculate the cross-section of wires or a transformer that is 3-4 times [larger], it also has a standard,” said Alvar Gaibullaev.

He also said that charging stations this year could be classified as group II consumers and set a tariff of 900 soums per 1 kW/h (for household consumers the basic tariff is 450 soums).
