At the meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism Issues, the senators considered Uzbekistan’s joining the reaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (London, Moscow and Washington, January 27, 1967).

According to the Senate’s press service, 114 countries have joined the Treaty to date. This treaty contains 17 articles covering the basic legal status of the outer space.

The senators emphasized that the country's joining the treaty would open opportunities for Uzbekistan to explore and use outer space, free access to all areas of space and celestial bodies, as well as participation in international space projects, exchange of resources and knowledge.

Also, joining the Treaty would help develop the space legal system of our country based on the generally recognized principles and provisions of international law.
