Wind power plants and industrial units projects were launched and shopping malls were inaugurated in Karakalpakstan. The launch ceremony was attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the presidential press service said.

In recent years, 10 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.6 GW have been commissioned through $2 billion in investment. By the end of the year, an additional 1.5 GW of capacity will be connected to the grid, and the share of "green" energy will be increased to 15%.

While, another 32 green projects with a total cost of $19 billion for 18.6 gigawatts are being implemented.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored that Karakalpakstan plays a major role in this. According to research institutes, Karakalpakstan has a potential of 680 GW of solar and 120 GW of wind energy.

By 2030, 10 large wind power plants with a total capacity of 10.3 GW will be erected in Karakalpakstan through direct investment of $11 billion. Once fully operational, these projects will generate 35 billion kilowatt-hours of green energy per year.

To ensure stability in power transmission, three power storage systems with a total capacity of 400 MW will be built in the Kungrad, Beruni and Karauzak districts.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched several of these projects today. The first is a 1 GW wind power plant worth $1.2 billion, which will be built by the Chinese company Sany Renewable in the Kungrad district.

The second is a 200 MW wind power plant with a 100 MW storage system worth $250 million, which will be created jointly with the Saudi company ACWA Power in the Beruni and Karauzak districts.

In the future, they will generate 4.2 billion kilowatt-hours of "green" energy per year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 1.76 million households. As a result, about 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be saved, and the volume of emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by almost 2 million tons.

Meanwhile, construction of enterprises for the production of parts, racks and blades of wind turbines is beginning in the Kungrad district. As a result, the production of parts for wind turbines with a capacity of 1000 MW and 120 racks per year will be localized, and import-substituting products worth 100 million dollars will be manufactured.

In addition, in the Nukus district, through investments of 24 million dollars, the production of 20 million heating radiators per year will be established.

The head of state pressed a symbolic button and launched the construction and operation of these new facilities.
