Propaganda of Soviet ideology, period and symbols should be prohibited by laws in Uzbekistan, the leader of Milliy Tiklanish party/Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Alisher Kadirov said on his Telegram channel.
He supported the decision of the Samarkand city criminal court, which sentenced a 74-year-old resident of Samarkand, who campaigned for the restoration of the USSR, to three years of house arrest. According to the case, he published statements in Telegram that "the independence of Uzbekistan is superficial and that the former Soviet Union did not officially collapse."
"I welcome the court's decision! The Uzbek people were discriminated against, were humiliated by the government of the USSR and are still healing the wounds of the past. Soviet ideology, which rejected nations, values and faith, brought disaster not only to the Uzbek people, but to all of humanity, and its remnants continue to be a disaster," he said.
“Of course, this sad period of our history should be analyzed and discussed, but its approval or propaganda should be considered not only a crime against the constitutional order, but also a betrayal of our people and our ancestors, who became victims of a bloody regime,” Kadirov concluded.
